Abstract
Cet article analyse les attitudes des laïcs et des prêtres catholiques en regard de la morale conjugale, à Montréal, observées surtout dans les années 1960. Il considère la diversité des comportements des prêtres et la façon dont certains transigent avec la loi religieuse, en réalisant des compromis qui réduisent les tensions des couples et préservent leur pratique religieuse. Il analyse également les subterfuges des fidèles pour déjouer la loi et la vigilance des confesseurs, montrant que le permis et le défendu ne sont pas séparés par une division claire, mais qu’il y a place pour les compromis entre le clergé et les fidèles.
