Abstract
Nous présentons d’abord la répartition des mariages de 1975 selon la langue maternelle des conjoints. Il y a 21 % des époux anglophones et 24 % des époux allophones qui ont choisi une épouse francophone. Nous analysons ensuite les familles recensées en 1971 où les deux conjoints sont présents et pour lesquelles nous connaissons la langue maternelle de chacun des conjoints et la langue d’usage au foyer. Les couples endogames utilisent dans la très grande majorité des cas leur langue maternelle. Cependant, il y a un certain nombre de couples qui ont fait un transfert linguistique et nous avons estimé qu’à peu près le tiers des transferts proviennent d’individus endogames. Il y a 3,5 % des couples où l’un des conjoints est français et l’autre anglais et ces couples utilisent l’anglais dans 60 % des cas.
