Abstract
L’occitan, dont l’assise traditionnelle concerne une grande partie du sud de la France, ne bénéficie que de très peu de possibilités dans l’enseignement. Cette situation résulte de plusieurs facteurs qui ne tiennent pas tous du centralisme et d’anciennes incitations au monolinguisme national. La faiblesse de l’aménagement favorable aux langues régionales rencontre maintenant une langue occitane très minoritairement pratiquée, dont la présence sur les médias publics en région n’est que symbolique. Les difficultés de l’occitan, non contrebalancées par une forte demande sociale ni par un volontarisme politique, bien qu’il y ait une évolution favorable dans certaines régions concernées, sont aussi alimentées par un faible niveau de standardisation. Or, ce handicap, qui témoigne d’un maintien de la variation historique, est intégré positivement dans les procédures de l’enseignement avec une conception dynamique du diasystème d’oc assurant pour l’heure des avancées pédagogiques basées sur un équilibre entre bases linguistiques communes, dont l’orthographe, et caractéristiques de la diversité géolinguistique.
