Precision Top-Quark Mass Measurement at CDF
Bibliographic record
Abstract
We present a precision measurement of the top-quark mass using the full sample of Tevatron $\sqrt{s}=1.96\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{TeV}$ proton-antiproton collisions collected by the CDF II detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $8.7\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$. Using a sample of $t\overline{t}$ candidate events decaying into the $\mathrm{\text{lepton}}+\mathrm{\text{jets}}$ channel, we obtain distributions of the top-quark masses and the invariant mass of two jets from the $W$ boson decays from data. We then compare these distributions to templates derived from signal and background samples to extract the top-quark mass and the energy scale of the calorimeter jets with in situ calibration. The likelihood fit of the templates from signal and background events to the data yields the single most-precise measurement of the top-quark mass, ${M}_{\mathrm{top}}=172.85\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.71(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.85(\mathrm{syst})\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}/{c}^{2}$.

Full frame machine prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
