Abstract
Le congrès eucharistique de Carthage tenu en 1930 a rassemblé des milliers de catholiques venus du monde entier pour une manifestation religieuse vécue comme une provocation par les Tunisiens sous protectorat français. Laissant de côté les principes de laïcité, les autorités religieuses et politiques françaises organisent de concert une semaine de cérémonies impressionnantes pour lesquelles l’archéologie est mise largement à contribution autour du thème de la résurrection de l’Afrique chrétienne. L’expression patriotique française s’y déploie dans un contexte de rivalités avec d’autres nationalismes, italien et britannique en particulier.
