Abstract

In this article the peer-to-peer paradigm is discussed as a means for the provision of complex information access and retrieval systems. A review of peer-to-peer technologies precedes a discussion of their potential to provide the basis from which a rich information service may be built. Spatial resolution of visual information as an important property of the objects stored in image databases and long term storage archives is considered. A JXTA-based system to explore responsiveness, using a JXTA-based web service, to such contextual properties is described.
