Abstract
Cet article traite du cinéma et de la culture contemporaine de Hongkong. Il est orienté sur le film Rouge (1987), de Stanley Kwan, adapté de la nouvelle Yanzhi kou (1986) de Li Bihua. La femme Ruhua revient du monde des esprits dans les années 80, à la recherche de son amant, des décennies après leur suicide commun. Sa recherche met en valeur les détails d’un romantisme qui semble avoir disparu du monde contemporain. L’article examine le sens profond de la nostalgie, émanant de cette histoire d’amour mélancolique, selon plusieurs perspectives : l’image filmique, l’ethnographie, le hasard comme agent, et le fantasme d’une communauté en pleine crise d’identité dans le Hongkong d’aujourd’hui avec son imminent « retour » à la Chine en 1997.
