Abstract
Cet article présente une étude de l'évolution de la population dans la réserve indienne du Village-Huron, à Loretteville (Québec), et du processus de développement de la réserve. Celle-ci a bénéficié un temps d'un surplus de territoire dans les Laurentides, mais elle doit faire face aujourd'hui à des problèmes d'espace vital. La population a davantage le profil d'une population blanche que celui d'une réserve, quand on le compare à d'autres réserves. Le Village-Huron présente les caractéristiques d'une petite ville de banlieue et son développement est grandement favorisé par la proximité de Québec. La confection et la commercialisation d'articles de sport et d'artisanat font vivre quelques petites entreprises. La fabrication de canots et de raquettes domine. La demande croît régulièrement dépassant souvent le rythme de production. La part de plus en plus importante que prennent les Indiens dans l'administration de leur réserve est considérée comme un élément positif pour le développement futur de cette communauté.
