Abstract
Le bestiaire dramatique du répertoire théâtral québécois et franco-canadien se présente comme une vaste ménagerie hétéroclite. Cependant, la récurrence du chien et des animaux de basse-cour (dont la poule et la vache) mérite une attention toute particulière. Force est de constater qu’en vertu de son altérité plus ou moins radicale, la figure de l’animal est exploitée afin d’interroger les traits de l’humanité. Par exemple, ses diverses représentations exercent toutes une torsion esthétique et sémantique sur la parole. De plus, elles soulèvent des questions d’ordre éthique, liées surtout à la douleur et à l’expérience de la mort, et enfin, elles obligent à sonder la force primitive associée à la présence animale et ses différents épiphénomènes dont les pouvoirs de guérison et l’érotisme.
