Va savoir de Réjean Ducharme multiplie les citations, les références encyclopédiques et les fragments d’oeuvres littéraires, sans toujours en dévoiler les origines et les sources. Sans nier l’importance d’une telle prolifération intertextuelle, le présent article s’attache plutôt aux discours et aux motifs qui accompagnent les héritages matériels et familiaux de Va savoir . En ne cessant de faire retour sur certaines figures, de la ruine à la souche, en passant par l’enclume, le roman témoigne des apories liées au fait d’hériter. Il se double par là même d’une réflexion sur les économies de l’héritage qui éclaire, à bien des égards, le rapport du narrateur, Rémi Vavasseur, à son passé et à son avenir.
