Les institutions financières détiennent une portion importante et toujours croissante des titres des compagnies publiques canadiennes. Ces institutions, également appelées « investisseurs institutionnels », remplacent ainsi progressivement les épargnants individuels comme actionnaires de ces entreprises. La transformation de l'actionnariat des compagnies publiques n’est pas sans conséquences sur la régie interne de celles-ci. En effet, les institutions financières adoptent une attitude de plus en plus interventionniste à l'égard des affaires des compagnies dont elles détiennent des titres. La présente étude a pour but d'examiner l’émergence de l'activisme des investisseurs institutionnels au sein des compagnies publiques canadiennes. L'auteur expose, tout d'abord, une nomenclature des institutions financières, pour ensuite étudier l'influence de l'activisme de ces investisseurs sur la régie d'entreprise au Canada.
