Abstract
Le modèle démographique polyvalent est une extension du modèle multirégional d’Andrei Rogers. On sait que ce modèle intègre la mobilité géographique au mouvement naturel. Si on étend le modèle à d’autres catégories ou états, on ne change pas fondamentalement le modèle; bien qu’il se présente des difficultés méthodologiques et des particularités, on peut se servir du même outillage matriciel. C’est ainsi que nous développons au Bureau de la Statistique du Québec un modèle démographique polyvalent, ou si on préfère, un algorithme, permettant de considérer, outre l’âge et le sexe, une centaine de catégories. Que ce soit au moyen de tables ou d’opérateurs de projection, il sera possible d’envisager des combinaisons de phénomènes comme la fécondité (en utilisant par exemple des probabilités d’agrandissement des familles), la nuptialité, l’activité, la mobilité géographique, la fréquentation scolaire, la survie, etc. Loin d’être un simple modèle bouton, le modèle polyvalent obligera l’utilisateur à tenir compte des concepts de base de la démographie et à préciser ses hypothèses, en particulier dans le domaine des interférences entre phénomènes.
