Abstract
Cet article présente les résultats d’une vaste enquête sur les services associés aux exportations de produits français. Même si l’orientation service ne concerne qu’un faible tiers des PMI exportatrices, elles se montrent plus dynamiques sur les marchés étrangers. La complexité du produit est le premier moteur de cette tertiarisation et les secteurs sont donc concernés de façon très inégale. L’organisation de l’entreprise (plutôt que sa taille), puis son type d’engagement à l’exportation interviennent ensuite. Les services concernés sont d’abord les plus tangibles ou les plus liés au produit: environnement technique ou logistique. Le premier type est lié à la complexité des produits (biens d’équipement) tandis que le second concerne plutôt les autres secteurs. Les PMI recourent peu aux filiales pour assurer les prestations extérieures, préférant les relations avec des partenaires indépendants. Les services associés permettent de dégager de nouvelles ressources lorsqu’un choix de diversification est à leur origine, mais également lorsque l’environnement tertiaire du produit s’enrichit.
