Durch nichts weiter als Licht wird der Motor angetrieben, den T. Ikeda et al. in ihrer Zuschrift auf S. 5064 ff. vorstellen. Die Drehbewegung von Azobenzol-haltigen Flüssigkristallelastomeren und ihren Kompositmaterialien kann Lichtenergie direkt – ohne Beteiligung von Batterien, elektrischen Drähten oder einem Getriebe – in mechanische Arbeit umwandeln.
