Peu de recherches traitent de la mobilité quotidienne des adolescents en lien avec les caractéristiques du milieu résidentiel et la localisation du milieu scolaire. Cette étude qualitative analyse les pratiques de déplacements de 30 adolescents résidant dans la périphérie de la communauté métropolitaine de Québec, ainsi que les significations qui leur sont attachées. Les résultats confirment une mobilité quotidienne dépendante de l’accompagnement automobile par les parents, mais aussi de l’autobus scolaire. En effet, les longues distances à parcourir dues à la dispersion sur le territoire des commerces, des équipements et des services excluent presque systématiquement le recours à la marche et au vélo utilitaires, alors que l’absence ou l’inefficacité du service décourage le recours au transport en commun. Les conséquences potentielles de cette mobilité dépendante sur le développement et les habitudes de vie des adolescents sont discutées en conclusion, en lien avec des pistes additionnelles de recherche.
