L’impact de l’administration d’iode radioactif depuis la perspective des patients : les répercussions pour la pratique

Abstract
Cette étude descriptive avait pour but de dégager les besoins des patients traités à l’iode radioactif (I131). Elle s’articulait autour d’une enquête normalisée complétée par 190 patients sélectionnés au sein de huit programmes canadiens administrant l’iode 131. Cent de ces patients étaient hospitalisés tandis que les 90 autres étaient traités en clinique externe. Les données liées à cette étude mettent en relief les variations qui existent au niveau de la perception, par les patients, de l’application des précautions associées au traitement à l’iode 131. Les patients ont exprimé le désir d’obtenir davantage d’information sur de nombreux aspects reliés aux expériences de traitement et sur le support utilisé pour la diffusion de cette information. Nous présentons également des répercussions sur le plan du soutien aux patients, concernant la prise en charge des problèmes psychosociaux qui vont de pair avec le cancer de la thyroïde.
