Depuis le milieu du xixe siècle en France et au tournant du xxe siècle en Amérique française, les chercheurs sont confrontés à l’épineux problème de l’édition des récits de tradition orale. Cet atelier, qui coïncide avec une dynamique très actuelle de retour au conte, a pris la forme d’un séminaire « sur mesure » où des spécialistes de ces questions – collecteurs, transcripteurs, éditeurs et analystes qui évoluent dans les contextes pluriels de la francophonie internationale — ont livré leurs points de vue sur la méthode de transcription et la composition du recueil de contes d’après leur expérience particulière des difficultés rencontrées et des meilleures solutions trouvées. Ces journées d’étude, qui sont au coeur des activités de la Chaire de recherche en oralité des francophonies minoritaires d’Amérique (Cofram) et qui préparent le grand projet d’établissement d’un corpus de littérature orale (Éclore), devaient servir à mettre au point un modèle d’édition approprié aux sources orales, souple et intelligible au plus grand nombre, en vue de favoriser vraiment leur utilisation et, peut-être, la relance des études en littérature orale.
