Durch Hydrolyse einer CF3-Gruppe in konzentrierter Schwefelsäure bildet sich aus [B(CF3)4]− das neue Borcarbonyl (CF3)3B−CO (siehe Molekülstruktur), das unerwartete Eigenschaften aufweist und ein elektrophiles Carbonyl-Kohlenstoffatom trägt.
