La niche écologique contre l'écosystème et l'intervention négligée des faits techniques La référence au concept d'écosystème domine l'anthropologie écologique, mais cette approche « centripète » (en ce qu'elle commence par délimiter un cadre spatio-temporel pour analyser ensuite son contenu) n'est pas sans danger et il apparaît que, loin d'avoir favorisé la coopération interdisciplinaire, elle l'a plutôt immobilisée : notamment en cristallisant un antagonisme factice entre les cohérences symboliques de l'ethnoscience et les cohérences biologiques d'une écologie plus matérialiste. La notion complémentaire de niche écologique installe en revanche une démarche « centrifuge » qui travaille d'abord sur des relations élémentaires et ne dessine les cadres qu'en fonction d'un problème posé et au moment de l'interprétation. Elle peut relancer l'écologie humaine en interdisant l'oubli tendanciel d'un type d'intervention aussi primordial que ceux relevant des organismes et des représentations : le domaine des faits techniques.
