Vibration suppression of a viscoelastic rotary beam using time–increasing internal pressure is presented in this paper. Coupled nonlinear longitudinal/bending vibration of a beam is assumed and, the governing equations of motion are derived for a rotating beam with time–varying internal pressure. Numerical simulations are carried out for various increasing profiles of the internal pressure and efficiency of the proposed suppression technique is evaluated in free and forced vibration. Resonant harmonic excitations as well as the broadband random excitations are also taken into account and performance of the control system is investigated. Application of the suppression system is also studied in case of angular decelerating rotary beams in which softening behavior occurs due to decreasing centrifugal force.
