Abstract
In a recent article in this journal, Peter Li compares the 1995 earnings of immigrant university graduates with those of their Canadian-born counterparts (Li 2001). He groups immigrants according to where they have obtained their degree: in Canada (if they immigrated before age 13), abroad (if they immigrated after age 24), and mixed (the remainder, those who immigrated at ages 13 to 24). By also differentiating by gender and visible minority status, Li defines 16 groups. He shows that average earnings as recorded in the 1996 Census differ by gender and race as well as by immigrant status (Table 1, copied from Li's article).
