Abstract
La période choisie correspond à l’arrivée des pères eudistes à la baie Sainte-Marie. Quelle place la religion prenait-elle à ce moment dans la vie quotidienne des fidèles? Lorsque l’on parle des mentalités religieuses, le rôle du clergé est souvent primordial. Même si le peuple acadien est souvent décrit comme très religieux, on peut supposer que l’isolement géographique et le manque d’encadrement ecclésiastique avant les années 1890 ont contribué à façonner de manière particulière leurs pratiques cultuelles et leurs croyances religieuses. Afin de chercher à comprendre comme se vivaient les relations entre l’enseignement officiel et les traditions populaires, je présente des témoignages sur les pratiques religieuses des Acadiens de la baie Sainte-Marie pendant la dernière décennie du xix e siècle.
