Abstract
Cette réflexion porte sur le concept le plus fréquemment mis à contribution dans l'analyse géographique de la francophonie nord-américaine, soit celui d'Amérique française. L'auteure présente les différents courants de recherche sur l'espace francophone nord-américain qui en sont tributaires, et elle en évalue la portée. Le travail des géographes est exploré dans une perspective culturelle. L'analyse s'attache ainsi à leur étude de l'Amérique française en tant qu'espace d'identification commun aux francophones d'Amérique, révélé par le discours sur le territoire, et à leur proposition d'un espace-réseau de migrations depuis le Québec, mis en lumière à travers la documentation historique et via l'enquête. Du nouveau regard porté par la géographie sur l'espace francophone nord-américain, il ressort que l'idée de pluralité de l'espace francophone a définitivement remplacé la vision d'une Amérique française une et inaltérable, ce qui ouvre la voie à des interprétations plus fines de la dynamique du fait français à l'échelle du continent.
