En 2008, ce sont près de cinq cents courriels que les Franciliens ont échangés avec Airparif, un organisme spécialisé sur la surveillance de la qualité de l’air en Ile-de-France. Sur notre étude de cas, c’est bien cette écriture virtuelle qui matérialise et actualise un phénomène fugace qui, sans cela, n’aurait laissé aucune trace. L’efficacité de ces énoncés sur l’air pollué repose d’abord sur la légitimité des scripteurs à prendre la parole. Ces mails sont des prises de paroles individuelles, déconnectées les unes des autres, sans constitution de porte-parole, ni de collectif. Il s’agit de faire reconnaître un problème singulier : la pollution atmosphérique de proximité personnalisée. Toutefois, il y a aussi, via cette agrégation de courriels, une reconnaissance potentielle de ces cas singuliers auxquels une valeur plus générale peut être accordée. En examinant la contribution de ces écrits à la définition des problèmes de pollution, notre objectif est de présenter une première étude sur l’expertise profane de l’air pollué.
