Abstract
Située dans l’extrême sud du Tchad, Bébédjia jouit de conditions naturelles (climat et végétation) favorables aux activités agropastorales. Ce milieu naturel attire les éleveurs nomades des zones sahélienne et saharienne du nord, menacés par de mauvaises conditions de production (sécheresse récurrente telles que celles de 1973-1975 et de 1983-1985) et l’instabilité politico-militaire. Contraints de se fixer dans cette région et de pratiquer l’agriculture en plus de leur activité traditionnelle, ces pasteurs nomades se retrouvent opposés aux agriculteurs autochtones dans le cadre de conflits fonciers de plus en plus importants compte tenu de la pression sur l’espace agropastoral, renforcée par le projet pétrolier de Doba. Loin d’exercer un arbitrage à l’amiable de ces conflits agriculteurs-éleveurs, les autorités (traditionnelles et publiques) les exacerbent et les instrumentalisent.
