Au Canada, la question linguistique est sensible, les francophones, minoritaires à l’échelle du pays mais majoritaires au Québec, luttent pour préserver cet héritage linguistique et le faire reconnaître à tous les échelons de l’État. Dans un tel contexte, la langue employée par les immigrant·e·s devient un enjeu et les critères linguistiques pour le séjour ou la naturalisation plus prégnants sous couvert de meilleure intégration.
