Drivers of the Perceived Value of a Third-Location Decompression Program for Canadian Forces Personnel Returning From Afghanistan

Abstract
The drivers of the perceived value of third-location decompression (TLD) programs are unclear. For this study, 14,253 Canadian personnel completed evaluations at the end of a TLD program. Results showed that sociodemographic and military characteristics were weak predictors of the perceived value of TLD. Instead, satisfaction with 10 out of 13 aspects of the program was predictive of the perceived value of TLD. The strongest predictors were support for the general concept of TLD and satisfaction with the educational and rest-and-relaxation components of the program. It was concluded that support for the concept and satisfaction with key program components drive the perceived value of TLD.
