Abstract
This paper presents in detail the mathematical equations describing electrodynamic current densities in receiving electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) in Cartesian coordinates and employs the finite element method to calculate the dynamic magnetic field produced by these current densities. The current densities generated in EMAT receivers are basically functions of the static magnetic-field and particle displacement vector components. Past attempts to analyze EMATs with ferromagnetic specimens failed to account for skin and proximity effects. In this paper, skin and proximity effects are properly taken into account in the modeling of EMAT receivers.
