Abstract
Cet article expose d’abord les nombreuses activités créatrices qu’a exercées Albert Camus en lien avec le théâtre, tant comme art scénique que comme genre littéraire. Sa partie centrale, ensuite, se penche sur la production de la première troupe camusienne, le « Théâtre du Travail », dans les années trente à Alger. En examinant ce pan de la carrière de Camus que la critique a éludé, elle met au jour une esthétique surprenante. L’article montre finalement en quoi ces audaces formelles annoncent des traits fondamentaux du répertoire camusien plus connu (celui de la décennie quarante), et se retrouvent aussi chez l’homme de métier qui prospère au Festival d’Angers dans les années cinquante.
