Abstract
Le présent article étudie la langue de quatre contes de Gabrielle Roy qui ont été publiés pour les enfants bien qu'ils n'aient pas été écrits à leur intention. Une analyse lexicale montre que le premier de ces textes véhicule, de façon plus subjective que les autres, une idéologie qui, d'une part, correspond à celle de la société à laquelle appartenait l'écrivaine dans son enfance, mais qui, d'autre part, traduit le regard qu'elle porte en tant qu'adulte sur cette période de sa vie. Les trois autres récits expriment davantage sa vision personnelle et prônent explicitement la réconciliation et l'harmonie des bêtes comme des êtres humains, ainsi que les bienfaits de la liberté. Ce message qui sous-tend toute l'oeuvre de la romancière paraît particulièrement bien adapté à de jeunes lecteurs.
