Dans l’oeuvre ultime de Sarah Kane, 4.48 Psychose , s’invente une posture énonciative singulière, mettant en cause la frontière entre des genres littéraires dont elle subvertit les codes, et aboutissant à la création d’un genre inédit relevant de la « pièce autobiographique ». Cette pièce marque l’aboutissement du travail mené par l’auteur sur les multiples voix que chaque individu intériorise. Elle se présente aussi comme sa tentative la plus radicale de renouveler la relation du théâtre au lecteur et au spectateur, pour les engager intimement dans la prise en charge du texte, les contraignant ainsi à une perception plus lucide de leur position dans le monde.
