Résumé La difficulté de maîtriser un bloc neuroaxial peut être source d’échec. Elle peut être imputée à des facteurs anatomiques comme le volume du LCR ou la taille des racines médullaires ainsi qu’à l’existence de septums qui divisent l’espace péridural ou de kyste de Tralov. Les conditions techniques, l’âge, le poids et la taille du patient mais surtout la grossesse influencent les conditions de diffusion de la solution anesthésique. Les caractéristiques de la solution anesthésique, telles que sa baricité, doivent être prises en compte dans la prédiction de l’extension du bloc.
