Abstract
L'A. propose une reflexion sur les perspectives contemporaines concernant les sages-femmes (sanaji) inuit a partir de l'examen des pratiques traditionnelles. Bien que les Inuit disposaient de leurs propres traditions pour l'accouchement, celles-ci disparurent avec l'arrivee du gouvernement et des hopitaux dans le Nord canadien. A l'instar de certains aines, l'A. pense que ces traditions devraient etre conservees et transmises aux generations futures. Explorant les pratiques autour de la naissance a partir des recits des anciens (unikkaaqtuaq), elle evoque les mythes, les pittailiniit (taboo), les tirigususiit (regles a suivre), et les techniques en relation avec la mise au monde du nouveau-ne
