Abstract
La théorie des chorèmes se propose d'adopter, pour analyser des phénomènes géographiques, un point de vue bien défini et compare les chorèmes à des signes linguistiques. La comparaison n'est pas exacte car les chorèmes n'ont pas pour fin la communication. Toutefois, on peut relever une ambiguïté dans la conception des chorèmes. Tantôt il s'agit des objets géographiques, tantôt des schémas graphiques qui servent à les noter sur une carte. En ce second sens, les chorèmes sont bien des signes, véhiculant le discours du géographe. Les conséquences de la confusion entre l'objet « chorème » et sa représentation graphique sont analysées sur la base des deux dessins qui se retrouvent dans les publications de Roger Brunet et Robert Ferras de 1980 à 1990: aires en contact et évolutions ponctuelles. Un tégéo (contraction de « théorie de la géographie ») est un signe géographique dont le signifié désigne un objet géographique constitué par un couple indissociable (information, lieu) différentié à la surface de la terre. Le tégéo est exprimé à l'aide d'une représentation dont le dessin est un signifiant obéissant à une logique.
