Abstract
Résumé En tant qu’institution, la Cour des comptes n’a pas résisté au régime de Vichy, qui l’a traitée avec considération. En 1940, elle n’a pas réagi aux quelques mesures d’exclusion qui ont concerné ses membres. Privée de certaines de ses attributions par la suppression de fait du rapport public et de la vacance des chambres législatives, elle a continué à juger les comptes des comptables publics dans les mêmes conditions qu’auparavant. Mais elle a su protéger son statut judiciaire contre des projets de réforme qui risquaient de dénaturer ses fonctions, elle semble avoir protégé discrètement les magistrats francs-maçons et son seul magistrat juif, elle a réussi à éviter la nomination d’un médiocre collaborateur de Laval, et surtout, ses chefs, pourtant nommés par Vichy, ont couvert les activités de résistance qui se déroulaient dans ses propres locaux, fréquentés par les principaux responsables de la Résistance gaulliste. Pendant la guerre, elle a pu accumuler des contrôles qui lui ont permis de publier après la Libération un rapport public qui eut un certain retentissement.
