Abstract
Nous analyserons, dans cet article, certains aspects du « créolisme », un ample\nphénomène social et culturel qui eut lieu au passage du XIXe au XXe siècle et qui\ncontribua à la construction de l’identité nationale de la jeune et multiculturelle\nRépublique Argentine. Nous nous centrerons sur la figure du « gaucho », habitant métis\nde la plaine argentine (la « pampa »), et nous comparerons son rôle concret,\nhistoriquement documenté, avec l’image idéalisée forgée a posteriori par le premier\nnationalisme argentin, celui qui vit le jour vers 1910, lorsque l’Argentine célébra son\npremier siècle de vie politique indépendante.
