Abstract
For my first communication as the 68th Canadian Urological Association President to our membership and the CUAJ readership, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the CUA members and Executives for bestowing on me the honour and privilege to serve the CUA. I also wish to congratulate Dr. Michael Chetner and his team for guiding the CUA through a very successful year and for orchestrating a superb Annual Meeting in a spectacular venue in the Rockies. Aside from organizing the Annual Meeting, the CUA is now a “well-oiled machine” with several components, working synergistically to serve our members year-round, thanks to the effort of my predecessors and their executive leadership teams. These individuals have established a highly efficient Corporate Office, an Office of Education which organizes numerous successful educational events yearly, and several effective standing committees with member- and patient-oriented mandates, all run by talented and devoted CUA members. Last but not least, CUAJ is an essential component of our Association, thanks to the herculean efforts of our founding, and now out-going, Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Laurence Klotz. On behalf of the CUA membership, I offer Dr. Klotz our sincere thanks for his vision, his tenacity and his dedication to the enterprise, which he has single-handedly transformed into a success story: an indexed national Urologic Journal with a rapidly rising impact factor. It is with great pleasure that I announce the designation of Dr. Klotz as Emeritus Editor-in Chief. We will appreciate Laurie’s experience and sage advice for our Journal going forward. I shall close by requesting that you block off your calendar on June 22–25, 2013, for our 68th Annual Meeting in Niagara Falls, Ontario. As one of the most iconic places in the world, Niagara Falls has an amazing flow rate of 200,000 cubic feet per second, rendering it the most fitting venue for our Meeting. We promise you an excellent scientific program chaired by Drs. Jonathan Izawa and Anil Kapoor, with Dr. Patrick Walsh and Dr. Francesco Montorsi already confirmed as our guest speakers. Our Local Organizing Co-chairs, Drs. Ian Brown and Dianne Heritz, will help to show-case all the world-class cultural and historic attractions in the Region. Bring the entire family to experience what Samuel de Champlain discovered in 1604, what H.G. Wells and Pierre Berton wrote about, and what Marilyn Monroe and Superman saw in the movies!
