Abstract
Cet article privilégie l'approche par les âges de la vie et celle des «effets de période» pour étudier la population des jeunes femmes de moins de 25 ans. Plusieurs questions structurent l'article, dont l'impact des restructurations du monde du travail sur l'insertion professionnelle. Les avancées des jeunes femmes sont-elles là pour durer? L'«effet social» de la scolarisation perdurera-t-il? Les choix professionnels expliquent-ils ce relatif progrès en dépit d'un contexte économique défavorable à l'ensemble des jeunes? Les gains dans la vie privée suivent-ils ceux dans l'activité? Une mobilité sociale ascendante pourrait caractériser cette cohorte par rapport à ses aînées. Les défis les plus importants résideront peut-être dans la conciliation de l'activité et de la maternité. Cependant, ils se situent aussi à l'intérieur même de la cohorte où la scolarisation est en train d'opérer des différenciations entre femmes tout aussi importantes que celles que l'on peut observer entre hommes et femmes.
