Abstract
Longtemps présentée comme un havre de paix dans un continent en proie à une instabilité chronique, la Côte d’Ivoire traverse une période de turbulences ponctuée par le coup d’État de décembre 1999, puis par une nouvelle tentative en septembre 2002 qui a conduit à la partition de facto du pays et à une situation durable de « ni guerre ni paix ». Notre hypothèse est que cette montée de l’instabilité est pour partie due à l’intervention des institutions financières internationales qui, à travers les programmes d’ajustement successifs, ont tenté d’imposer le modèle néolibéral, bouleversant les équilibres antérieurs, sans produire de nouveaux compromis susceptibles d’assurer la stabilité sociale et politique du pays. En ce sens, le conflit ivoirien apparaît, au moins partiellement, comme le produit de l’échec de l’application du (post) consensus de Washington.
