Abstract
Les manuels de français issus des communautés religieuses québécoises de la première moitié du XXe siècle sont remarquablement homogènes quant à leur ton et à leur contenu. Nous avons analysé soixante-dix d’entre eux afin de découvrir la conception de la littérature qui s’en dégage. Celle-ci est à la fois perçue comme l’art de bien écrire et comme un florilège d’auteurs, français ou canadiens, dont les thèmes respectent les règles de la morale et celles de l’amour de la patrie et de la langue française. Nous avons dégagé de notre analyse la liste des auteurs français et canadiens les plus utilisés dans les manuels, en accordant une importance particulière à ces derniers et au traitement qu’ils font de la patrie.
