Abstract
Cet article propose quelques pistes pour revisiter la contribution intellectuelle d’un pilier de la sociologie politique américaine. S’érigeant en faux, tôt dans sa carrière, contre le fonctionnalisme parsonien qui dominait alors la sociologie américaine, Charles Tilly (1929-2008) consacrera sa vie active à l’élaboration d’une sociologie politique intrinsèquement historique, consciente de la complexité de son objet. Nous envisageons cette sociologie sous trois angles : nous rappelons les critiques auxquelles elle dut faire face depuis les années 1970, nous présentons les plus grandes lignes de ses applications empiriques, puis nous évaluons ses assises ontologiques.
