Abstract

Bono, MD, Boston Medical Center, Boston University School of Medicine, Boston, MA Case Profile:A 42-year-old man presented to the emergency room with a complaint of neck pain after an injury sustained while sliding down a fire pole headfirst. History did not suggest any loss of consciousness. He had no complaints of numbness, paresthesias, or weakness in the upper or lower extremity. Physical examination demonstrated focal, posterior mid-cervical neck tenderness to palpation of the spinous processes, as he was maintained in a hard cervical collar. Detailed examination demonstrated no neurologic deficits, no hyperreflexia, and no other associated injuries.
