Résumé Nous présentons une revue critique des principales théories psychanalytiques et développementales sur le père, en cherchant à les faire dialoguer afin de définir le père tant dans sa dimension de fonction psychique que dans sa dimension d’objet réel. Comment être un père au quotidien et à la fois représenter la nécessaire symbolique du tiers ? Qu’est-ce qu’un tiers au quotidien ? Voilà les questions qui guident cette réflexion qui va nous conduire du côté de la conjugalité des parents comme mécanisme d’action de la fonction de triangulation représentée par le père. Triangulation soutenue et préparée par la multitude de différences sexuées existant entre les apports maternels et les apports paternels à l’enfant, dans les différentes sphères de son développement.
