Résumé Les recherches des deux dernières décennies montrent combien la violence conjugale met à risque le développement de l’enfant. Elles conduisent également à reconnaître des voies d’action prometteuses pour venir en aide à l’enfant. À cet égard, l’importance de soutenir la qualité de la relation mère-enfant ressort de nombreuses études. Cet article propose une synthèse des données de recherche disponibles sur les conséquences de la violence conjugale sur la mère, sur l’enfant et sur la relation mère-enfant. Il amène à dégager plusieurs cibles d’intervention visant à soutenir les différentes dimensions de la qualité de cette relation et les limites des actions actuelles qui illustrent le fossé existant entre les données probantes et la pratique.
