Abstract
Créée en 1811, la Bibliothèque dite des avocats est l'une des plus anciennes institutions culturelles et juridiques de Québec. Aujourd'hui encore, la Bibliothèque du Barreau est un outil de référence et de documentation de première importance pour les juristes. Elle a d'ailleurs su conserver le témoignage de son passé en préservant l'essentiel de ses collections historiques. Le présent article situe la fondation et la croissance de la Bibliothèque du Barreau de Québec dans le contexte social, politique et professionnel du XIXe siècle.
