Abstract
Golden Meadow, village de pêcheurs ! C'est ainsi qu'un visiteur pourrait percevoir l'endroit s'il yarrivait au début du mois de mai et y voyait tous les bateaux de pêche amarrés le long du bayouLafourche. C'était vrai il y a moins de 40 ans. Mais on y a découvert du pétrole et du gaz dans lesannées '30. À cause de ses immenses ressources énergétiques, la paroisse de Lafourche a connudepuis ce temps une phase sans précédente de croissance économique. Bien entendu, les capitauxextérieurs, les travailleurs étrangers et le modernisme américain qui envahirent la région provoquèrentd'énormes remous dans la communauté. Cette étude porte précisément sur les facteurs dechangement et la réaction provoquée par l'industrialisation : le processus de stigmatisation ethnique,l'action de cette stigmatisation sur l'identité collective des Cadjins, et le récent phénomène derenaissance ethnique. Ce dernier fait suite à une certaine intégration à la société industrielle américaineoù la population a appris à utiliser plusieurs de ses habilités particulières (notamment la navigationet le bilinguisme) pour vaincre la honte et le mythe de l'infériorité.
