Abstract
This article addresses the active afterlife of L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables (1908) in terms of its commodification. Focusing specifically on the Anne dolls available in the market, as well as certain Canadian tourist spots inspired by Anne , the article delves into the thorny issue of "authenticity"—imagined in textual, legal and corporate terms—in case of these literary spin-off products. Finally, it takes up the question of materiality, with respect to Anne dolls in particular, in order to interrogate (English-) Canadian nationalism in the context of global Anne commodity circulation.
