Le but principal de cet article est de démontrer comment la géographie historique et culturelle peut contribuer à une meilleure compréhension de l'état actuel des relations franco-anglophones au Québec. Le terrain étudié est celui de la partie orientale de la Basse-Côte-Nord du Québec où la ségrégation religieuse et linguistique entre les communautés francophone-catholique, anglophone-catholique et anglophone-protestante est présente depuis environ 150 ans. En analysant des données généalogiques, des patterns de migration ainsi que l'histoire institutionnelle de la Basse-Côte-Nord, nous pouvons conclure que le présent conflit entre les francophones et les anglophones de la côte labradorienne s'explique surtout en fonction des premiers patterns de peuplement et de l'évolution socio-spatiale de la région beaucoup plus qu'en termes de racisme et d'antagonisme.
