Dans le présent article, l’auteure examine l’impact de l’édition artisanale etdes presses particulières sur les conditions de lecture des recueils de poésiepubliés par Villeneuve Publications, maison d’édition anglo-montréalaise en activitéde 1976 à 1987. Elle retrace l’histoire du phénomène des presses particulièresdepuis leurs origines en Angleterre jusqu’à leur inscription dans le paysageculturel canadien et québécois, et brosse un portrait de l’évolution et desactivités de Villeneuve Publications et de ses fondateurs, la poète anglo-québécoiseRobyn Sarah et l’imprimeur-typographe Fred Louder. Abordant le livre d’artiste sousl’angle de la bibliophilie et de la consommation de biens culturels, l’article amèneles lecteurs à réfléchir sur les liens qui unissent les qualités matérielles dulivre, sa lisibilité et sa valeur monétaire et symbolique. Enfin, l’auteure tracedes parallèles entre l’édition artisanale telle que pratiquée par VilleneuvePublications et par des imprimeurs canadiens-anglais et la tradition québécoise dubeau livre et du livre d’artiste.
