Abstract
Dirigée par W. Stammler puis K. Langosch, la première édition du Dictionnaire des Auteurs de la littérature du Moyen Âge allemand (Verfasserlexikon-Die Literatur des deutschen Mittelalters ; désormais : VL), comportait cinq tomes, dont la parution s'échelonna de 1933 à 1955.Mise en chantier en 1978, la seconde édition entièrement revue et augmentée de cet instrument de référence des études médiévales outre-Rhin est close depuis la publication, en décembre 2008, d'un dernier tome, troisième volume des indices et quatorzième de la série.Le moment est venu de tenter un rapide portrait en forme de bilan d'un monument érudit dont on chercherait en vain l'équivalent en France.
